McCollum burns
a Republican

Rep. Bill McCollum seems to be a hypocrite. This is the man that has no problem with putting submachine guns in every citizen's hands but says there is a danger in the medical use of marijuana ["Grassroots effort," March 26].
It is this kind of blatant stupidity and money-grubbing that turns more people off to the political process and makes those in Washington less and less relevant to our daily lives. Most citizens have started ignoring these stupid laws when they interfere with their own intelligent thinking. Of course, those in Washington ignore the law all the time.
Rep. McCollum should act like a Republican and stay out of peoples' private lives. He is not a doctor and has no first-hand knowledge of the positive effects of this drug. The medical use of marijuana should be a decision left strictly to doctors and their patients.

David W. Cruise, Orange County
Republican Committeeman
